About: The Parlor Table

The Parlor Table balances formal geometry with natural organic form. Sited within an oval room, surrounded by elegant figural wood grain and a suspended stone ceiling, the table sits to balance systems of rigid formal cues with natural imperfections within nature. A vegetable-based uv-stable resin marries two consecutive slabs of Black Walnut, suspended by a custom steel base that again is derived from a rigid formal composition, but manipulated through industrial processes to allow for comfortable human use. The result is a unique piece, characterized by a conjoining of natural

We worked closely with Integrity Ironworks and Blast-Master to design, fabricate, and finish a custom steel base that would support the large wooden top. The pedestal design also allowed for comfortable use for 6-8 people to sit around the table.

STEEL BASE

WOOD SOURCING

The oversized table required us to source large, 3” thick slabs of black walnut to eventually cut down to the 5’ diameter finished size.

JOINERY

We embedded complex hidden doweling to marry the two slabs together while the resin cured, ensuring stability during the thick pouring process.
